The American public knew when Obama took the oath of office that the day would come when he would launch a campaign against gun ownership and it looks like that day is drawing near. Remember back to the statement by Obama's former chief of staff Rahm Emanuel,"You never want a serious crisis to go to waste".
Well as it turns out, his crisis to use for the launch of his new gun control legislation is going to be the January 8th shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Obama has long been an anti-firearms supporter and was an Illinois state Senator prior to being elect President. Illinois has some of the toughest firearms legislation in the country, all of which had the full backing and support of President Obama.
I firmly believe that whatever legislation is introduced will go way beyond the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 which President Clinton signed into law. Clinton's "Assault Weapons ban" expired in 2004 when it was not renewed by President George W. Bush. After 10 years of research, as well as no indication from the ATF that the law was having impact on crime, the law was allowed to expire. I believe whatever law is proposed will not target certain "classes" of firearms, but firearms in general. The Obama administration will seize this opportunity to strip the country of it's Second Amendment rights, something that he has had on his radar for a long time.
